Whether
you take a train or a bus, you'll find yourself in Downtown Providence,
only a 15-minute walk from the Brown campus and the CS Department. A
cab should cost you under $6.
Walking
from the Train Station
Walk
through the Park Row (south) exit of the train station. Proceed south
on Exchange Street, crossing the river. Turn left onto Memorial Boulevard
and then left again onto Steeple Street. Follow Steeple Street across
the river again, and up College Hill (Steeple Street becomes Thomas
Street). Halfway up the hill, turn right on Benefit Street, then immediately
left onto Waterman Street. Follow Waterman Street for one and half blocks
to Leeds Theatre/Lyman Hall (77 Waterman St.).
(Amtrak
and the MBTA Commuter
Rail stop at the Providence Station).
Walking
from Kennedy Plaza (Bus Stop)
The
Providence Bus Terminal (Bonanza
Bus) is two miles north of campus, so do not get off there!
Get off at the Downtown Providence stop. This will leave you in or near
Kennedy Plaza.
Walk east along Washington Street (you will be walking against traffic
on a one-way street). Cross the river and go up College Hill. You should
find yourself on Waterman Street. Continue for two and half blocks to
Leeds
Theatre/Lyman Hall (77 Waterman Street).
Catch
the Trolley
The
RIPTA Trolley will take you from Kennedy Plaza to the CIT for 50 cents (exact change).
Take the Green Line (RIPTA bus route "92 East") - the trolley is marked
"Fox Point". Check the
schedule online. Get off at the first
stop after the tunnel. This is the intersection of Thayer Street and
Waterman Street. Go back up Waterman St (from
the way you came),
past the Greenhouse and the Psychology Dept. to Leeds
Theatre/Lyman Hall (77 Waterman Street).
Flying
to Brown
The
T.F. Green airport (code PVD) is approximately 10 miles from downtown
Providence, and is served by most national and regional airlines. Cabs
to Brown cost about $25 plus tip.
Boston's Logan Airport (BOS) is a good second choice. Boston is about
an hour away from Providence, and the transit system between there and
here is fairly good; especially recommended is the every-two-hours Bonanza
bus service.
