Andrew Starner will join the Doctoral Program at Brown in the Fall. Andrew is currently a writer-in-residence at the Amazwi School of Media Arts in Hoedspruit, South Africa. When he's not dodging wildlife or putting the finishing touches on a play about demonic possession and transsexuality called Zulu Hour, he's also part-time English Grammar and Editing Instructor for a class of fifteen Shangaan women journalists. Previous to that, he has worked at The American Scholar magazine in Washington, D.C., Live Arts Theatre in Charlottesville, and the Royal Court Theatre in London. While a student at the University of Virginia, he directed Spectrum Theatre and edited the Virginia Literary Review. At Brown he intends to explore early 20th-century avant-garde theatrical practice...in a time machine he hopes to build collaboratively.
