Christopher Bigsby is Professor of American Studies at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and of the Royal Society of Arts. Known internationally as a major expert on American drama, he has published more than thirty books covering American theatre, popular culture, and British drama.
He is considered the premiere authority on the playwright Arthur Miller and has recently completed a definitive biography. Among his more recent books are The Cambridge Companion to August Wilson (2007), Neil LaBute: Stage and Cinema (2007), Remembering and Imagining the Holocaust: The Chain of Memory (2006), Arthur Miller: A Critical Study (2005) and Modern American Drama, 1945-2000 (2000). He co-edited with Brown's Don B. Wilmeth the award-winning three-volume The Cambridge History of American Theatre (1998-2000). He is also an award-winning novelist (his novel Hester, 1994, won the prestigious McKitterick Prize for Best First Novel), regular radio and television broadcaster, and theatre reviewer for major British newspapers.
Much in demand as a speaker, Professor Bigsby has lectured throughout the world, most recently in Australia, Turkey, Germany, France, Austria, Russia, Spain, Portugal, and on numerous occasions in the U. S. (including for Professor Wilmeth's retirement seminar in 2003).
