Brown University/Trinity Rep MFA Programs

The Brown/Trinity MFA in Acting and Directing was formed in the belief that graduate acting and directing training is most effective when in-depth studio work occurs in close proximity and exchange with rigorous academic study. Similarly, rigorous academic study can be enriched through substantive ongoing relationships to arts organizations, professional theatres, and civic and community bases beyond the "ivy tower" of the university.

Brown University¹s Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies is internationally recognized for the quality of its faculty and instruction.

Trinity Rep, with its deep tradition of resident artists, provides a firm foundation of professional experience. Together, the two organizations have produced a model of theatre training that is rigorous and technically demanding, without intellectual or creative limitations.

The  M.F.A. programs in Acting and Directing, housed at Trinity Repertory Theatre, enjoy a consortial relationship with other Brown Programs in Theatre, including the  Ph.D. program in Theatre and Performance Studies and the MFA Program in Playwriting, housed in Brown's Lyman Hall in the Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies. Rites and Reason Theatre, housed in Brown's Africana Studies Department in Churchill House, is also part of the Consortium of Theatre Programs at Brown. During their time at Brown/Trinity, Acting and Directing students have many opportunities to study and work with fellow students from all areas of the Consortium of Theatre Programs at Brown.
