Andrew Hertz

 

BIO
Andrew is a nationally award winning composer and musical director residing in New York City. His latest compositions include Burbach/Lupone! (Ars Nova, September 2009), Voyages: a song cycle, Becoming Sammy (first premiered at the Brown/Trinity Playwrights Repertory Theatre under the title Torah! Torah! Torah! ), Flipside (Frederick Loewe Award Winner), A Seat on the One-Train , The Rat Who Heard Too Much , The Session , and The Best Brown Musical Ever: The Musical! He is currently working on a musical song cycle, "20/20", directed by Brown University Professor Kym Moore. He has worked with Ben Vereen and Jack Black on the movie reunion concert of Jesus Christ Superstar in Hollywood, and has performed in regional shows as music director and pianist including The Full Monty, Hair , The Last Five Years, A Little Night Music , and Aida. Andrew is the musical director of the sketch comedy group The Apple Sisters (ECNY AWARD, best musical comedy act). He was nominated for a New York Innovative Theatre Award for Best Original Music for The Apple Sisters. He holds an MFA in musical theatre writing from The Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and a BA in music from Brown University.

Andrew is a private vocal coach, specializing in acting for singers and development of repertoire.
