Student Research

Marisa Arpels Fellowship
The fellowship supports a single undergraduate student for approximately ten weeks of summer research. The research should address urban environmental issues, preferably in the city of Providence and/or which affect low-income communities and/or affect the developing world. Students are encouraged to study the interconnection between built and natural systems and consider ways to reconcile the two. While environmental issues should be addressed, the analysis can center on larger issues of economic or community justice, public health, and so on.

Harriet David Goldberg '56 Endowment
The fund supports partly or fully one or more summer research projects. Students submit their summer research proposal during middle of spring semester, and the Director of Urban Studies selects the best to receive this award. Two Goldberg fund awards were given in 2007.

Undergraduate Teaching and Research Assistantships (UTRA)
The program is designed to strengthen undergraduate education through supporting collaborative research, course development, and teaching activities between faculty members and students in all academic disciplines. UTRAs may be held either over the summer or during the semester.
