Hannah Burr '95

  • I am a visual artist and an entrepreneurial coach. I work with organizations and individuals to pioneer their creative work. Recent projects: 'Visual Traces of Groups at work' at the Drawing Center NYC in 2008. In '09 I installed and performed a project using the total inventory of my possessions. My all media work includes making gesture, event or interactions visible or assigning intention to concrete objects. I'm a MacDowell Colony Fellow and Mass Cultural Council Grant Recipient. My studio is in Boston, where I live.

  • After Brown I lived in DC, Hungary and NYC. I worked in an art gallery, the National Shakespeare Theater Costume Shop, a private school, a public school, for studio in a School, and for fashion designers Anna Sui and Elie Tahari. I've continued to paint and exhibit my work no matter where I was working.
  • I currently live in Boulder CO. I run a creative lab for a new'ish multipurpose business. It is a high end consignment shop which employs youth in a residential mentoring program and features classes in fashion and accessory based skills like sewing, jewelry making, silkscreening and fashion drawing. www.commonthreadsboulder.com

  • Highlights include solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Toronto: group exhibitions at the Museo De Arte Contemporaneo De Castilla Y Leon (MUSAC) in Spain. Albright College (two-person show), the Bruce Museum, the Centre d'Art Santa Monica (Barcelona, Spain) the 2005 Prague Biennale, and the Currier Museum: installations at Art Basel (Miami and Switzerland), the Frieze Art Fair (London), and the Armory Show (New York); and being invited to create a imited edition multiples and give a lecture on my artwork as part of the Whitney Museum's "initial Public Offerings" program in 2007.

  • I am now living and working in State College, Pennsylvania, where I teach in the School of Visual Arts and Department of Landscape Architecture at Penn State.
  • I originaly came here in 1997 for graduate school and then lived in New York city and in Kyoto, Japan before moving back in 2006.
  • I maintain an active studio practice and am represented by Curator's Office in Washington, DC
  • This past fall I had collaborative works made with my artist colleague Kate McGraw.
