About Building Brown

In February 2002, the Corporation of Brown University unanimously endorsed the first steps in a far-reaching, multiyear Proposal for Academic Enrichment presented by President Ruth J. Simmons. The proposal, one of the University's largest academic investments in its lengthy history, focused on expanding and enriching Brown's core academic programs. In the time since the Academic Enrichment Plan was approved, there has been significant progress in developing a longer-term plan for the coming decade and beyond.

The plan maintains a clear focus on enriching Brown's academic program, but also establishes priorities in campus life and student support, facilities and infrastructure needs, and financial planning and fund-raising.

A great university is always a work in progress. Supporting these Academic Enrichment initiatives means creating new spaces for research, teaching, and simply living at Brown. This website outlines these efforts to date. As we look to the future and with continued neighborhood support, the University will continue to make College Hill—and the entire Providence area—a wonderful place to live and learn.
