PaeTec, Brown's Student Long Distance Provider

Paetec Communications provides long distance services for students at Brown University. With a domestic long distance rate of 6 cents per minute, Paetec Communications offers an affordable calling program with the flexibility to meet your needs. This is the standard rate plan for all students. Students also have the option, however, of subscribing to a calling plan with a per minute rate of 2.9 cents and a $7.95 monthly fee. Important aspects of your Campuslink service include:

  • This service is free for all Brown students; there are no sign-up fees or monthly service charges.
  • 6-cent standard rate plan - The standard domestic calling plan is 6 cents a minute on all direct dial long distance calls you make using your PBN. No sign up is required. This is the rate you will pay if you do not sign up for a calling plan option.
  • 2.9 cents and a $7.95 monthly fee. - You will pay 2.9 cents a minute on all direct dialed long distance calls plus a $7.95 monthly fee.
  • International rates on the PaeTec Communications plan - are competitively priced. Below are the per-minute rates for some of the countries that were most commonly called by Brown students last year. Rate information on other countries is available under the "Your Account" link at www.campuslink.paetec.com You will need your PBN and your 11 digit account number to access this information.

Paying Your Bill

E-billing and e-payment - All students receive e-billing instead of paper bills. Each month, students will get an e-mail when their bill is available online. Bill detail will be available at www.campuslink.paetec.com for review and payment with a credit card or debit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa are all accepted). Paper bills are avalilable for a $1.00 monthly fee.

Credit Limits - A $150 credit limit has been automatically set to help you manage your calling budget. If you exceed your credit limit your PBN may be automatically deactivated. Your PBN will be reinstated after payment is received within 24 hours. To lower your credit limit or for questions about how your credit limit works, contact Customer Service at 1 800-962-4772. If your PBN is deactivated due to exceeding your credit limit, you are still responsible for any additional fees incurred, including any monthly fees.

PBN - Your Personal Billing Number

How do new students receive the PaeTec PBN code? Will it be active right away?

Check your mailbox when you arrive on campus. There will be an PaeTec Welcome Kit waiting for you which includes a Personal Billing Number (PBN) card. The PBN will be active immediately. If, for some reason, you do not receive a PBN in your campus mailbox, please contact PaeTec Campuslink at 1-800-962-4772 and speak to a customer service representative.

Does a student get a new PaeTec PBN every year?

No, your PBN will remain the same throughout your time at Brown unless it is lost or stolen.

What if a student loses or forgets their PaeTec PBN code?

Report the loss to the PaeTec Campuslink Service Center immediately by calling 1-800-962-4772 (a PBN is not required to make this call). You will be issued a new PBN and the lost code will be deactivated. Generally, you will not be held responsible for calls made after your PBN is reported lost or stolen. If you forget your PBN, go to www.campuslink.paetec.com and follow the "Do I Have an Account" link, or call the service center at the number listed above.

What if the PaeTec PBN code does not work (a student can make campus and local calls but not long distance calls)?

  • Check to see if the PaeTec PBN is 10 digits long. If it is not, call the PaeTec Campuslink Service center at 1-800-962-4772 to obtain a new PBN.
  • If the PaeTec PBN works from another student dormitory telephone, but not the telephone in your room, call the Brown University Dormitory Communications Hotline, ext. 3-7001, and report the problem.
  • If your PBN does not work at all, call the PaeTec Campuslink Service Center at 1-800-962-4772. Your PBN is not required to complete this call.
