FileMaker Users' Group

Sign Me Up!

Introduction

The FileMaker Users' Group exists to bring together the database designers and advanced users from across the Brown University community; to share our knowledge and experience of the product with each other. The goal is to make our many FileMaker solutions collectively more effective, more reliable, and more secure. To join the group, please contact the Help Desk.

Support for FileMaker from CIS

CIS is in the process of improving the strength of its FileMaker support. The Help Desk is receiving more training, the Instructional Technology Group is offering courses, and several CIS staff are involved with this user group. CIS has also created a Listserv mailing list for discussion on topics related to FileMaker use at Brown. If you join the group, you will automatically be subscribed to the mailing list. If you would like to view the archives of the mailing list, visit the Listserv Archive page and choose "Filemaker-L". Meetings of the FileMaker Users Group are announced on this mailing list.

Getting the Software

CIS has negotiated a site license for Brown that covers the client products FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Advanced, as well as FileMaker Server and Advanced Server. This software is available FREE to Brown University staff, faculty, and students. The links below connect to the download pages providing the client software for MacOSX and Windows, where you can find system requirements and other information related to installing the software. The downloads are currently restricted to members of the FileMaker Users' Group, while the community adjusts to this latest version (8). If you are a database designer, you can contact the Help Desk to join this group. If you use FileMaker in your office, but someone else maintains the databases; please contact that person to request software installation.
