The drawing collection is small but diverse, containing works by 19th- and early 20th-century masters such as Auguste Renoir, Henri Matisse, Ernst Ludwig Kirschner, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, and Joan Miro, and contemporary works by Mel Bochner, Barry Le Va, Richard Artschwager, Jackie Ferrara, Terry Winters, Dorothea Rockburne, Hannah Wilke, and others. It also contains exceptional drawings by Diego Rivera, one of which is a study for the Detroit Industry mural (1932-33), given to the university by the artist in 1935. Works on paper by Providence-based, nationally acclaimed artists Richard Fleischner and Howard Ben Tre are also part of the collection.
