Bryan Edwards had already written a work on the British West Indies when he
turned his attentions to the French colony of Saint-Domingue. The portion of the
history of Saint-Domingue was reprinted in his three volume work, The history,
civil and commercial, of the British colonies in the West Indies, London, 1801.
This work contains useful information on trade and commerce, productions and
yields, and an account of the British force’s occupation of the island.
