Map of the World, 1600
First demonstration of the Mercator projection

This was the first demonstration of Edward Wright’s new projection, which now carries the name of Gerard Mercator, the cartographer who popularized its use. The lines showing longitude are equidistant and parallel to each other, rather than converging at the poles. The lines showing latitude are spaced proportionate to their distance from the equator. Accompanied by an explanatory note.

In two sheets, 17 x 25" when joined. $30.00
