Search for a northeast passage

This is the Western Hemisphere portion of a world map dedicated to Capt. John Wood who, at the time of its publication, was making preparations for his voyage to discover a northeast passage to Asia. Shipwrecked, Wood lost his papers and “all I had in the world beside.” The failure of this expedition brought to a close English attempts to sail to Asia by a northerly route.
