M–017, Chesapeake Bay and New Jersey, 1678–1679

Chesapeake Bay and New Jersey, 1678–1679

With inset of New England

Although derivative in many respects, this map by John Thornton and Robert Greene shows some names that appear on no earlier map. These legends must have resulted from the 1676 expedition of James Wasse, a London surgeon commissioned to carry out one of William Penn’s first colonization projects.
