Fine Antique Map Reproductions

M–029, Bermuda, 1678

Bermuda, 1678

Thomas Clarke’s manuscript map is a copy of a survey made by Richard Norwood in 1663. Bermuda was a proprietary colony under the control of the Somers Island Company until 1684 when its charter was revoked and the island became a royal colony. This map provided the Lords of Trade in London with some of the information they needed in order to sort through the colonists’ grievances and to come to a decision about the future of the island.

Approx. 18 x 36", reduced. In color. Manuscript. Forthcoming.
