Jean Baptiste Du Tertre was a Dominican priest who spent several years as a missionary in the French West Indian colonies. During his stay he observed and collected data on the natural history of the islands, their native inhabitants, and the European settlements. Maps M–032, M–033, and M–034 reflect the information obtained by Du Tertre in the 1640s.
