M–051; West Coast of Africa, 1672–1675

West Coast of Africa, 1672–1675

This map was designed to show the west coast of Africa with its trading centers and its geographical relationship to the British Isles. Exploitation of slave labor from Africa was the basis of the prosperity of the sugar-producing islands of the Caribbean, and the success of the Royal African Company (to whom the map is dedicated) was a matter of great interest to almost all of the colonies.

17 x 21 1/4". Forthcoming.
