APPLICATION  FOR  JOHN CARTER BROWN LIBRARY RESEARCH  FELLOWSHIPS  2012–2013  

The complete application for a John Carter Brown Library Research Fellowship consists of the following parts:

1. Electronic submission of:

  • Three letters of recommendation. To be sent from scholars acquainted with the applicant's research, these letters may be transmitted electronically either on institutional letterhead and scanned or sent directly from from the academic or institutional email address of the referee to JCBL_Fellowships@Brown.edu.

    2. Mail submission of:

  • The applicant's current CV
  • A 100-word abstract of the research proposal
  • A persuasive narrative description of the proposed project (not to exceed 1200 words) that includes detailed information on how specific areas and materials in the collection of the John Carter Brown Library will support the work.

All parts of the application must be submitted or postmarked no later than December 15, 2011.

Announcements of Fellowship awards will be made in mid-March 2012.

Please keep in mind recipients of all Fellowships are expected to relocate to Providence and to be in continuous residence at the John Carter Brown Library for the entire term of the award. Those living within commuting distance of the Library (approximately 45 miles distant) are ordinarily not eligible for JCB Fellowships.
