Gazeta de Lima. Lima, 1744.
The Gazeta de Lima first appeared in January of 1744 and ran for 18 issues and three supplements before ceasing, before reappearing in 1748 and continuing until 1767. Early periodicals such as this frequently reprinted news items from published elsewhere, both within and beyond the Spanish Empire. These works imbued the colonials with a sense of inclusion within the Spanish milieu, but at the same time helped forge a local and distinctly American identity.

La Gazeta de Lima apareció por primera vez en enero de 1744 y publicó 18 números y tres suplementos antes de cesar. Reapareció en 1748 y continuó hasta 1767. Además de artículos originales, este tipo de periódico reimprimía noticias ya publicadas en otros lugares, tanto dentro como fuera del imperio español. Estas obras les dieron a los colonos un sentido de inclusión en el entorno español, pero al mismo tiempo ayudaron a forjar una identidad local y americana.
