Procedures for entering Government Documents
classification numbers in MARC field 086.
MARC field 086 contains government document classification numbers for state, national, and international documents. MARC field 086 is indexed and searchable in Josiah. It is in Innovative field group g; index code for field 086 is also g. The Brown University Library uses the 086 field for United States federal government documents and United Nations documents.

If MARC field 086 is present on cataloging copy, accept it.
If there is a document number indicated on the Serials/Docs routing flag, input the data in a MARC field 086. See Data input
