
Make notes to provide supplementary and/or explanatory information to
what has already been provided in other areas of the descriptive
cataloging (Areas 1-6) for the item being cataloged, usually a hymnal or
other work containing hymns or other sacred vocal music. Follow the order
of notes as given in AACR2R98, rules 2.7B1-B20. The arrangement is
intended to be consistent with an earlier document, Cataloging Notes Used
for Songsters in the Harris Collection. The numbers in parentheses, such
as "(A2)" and "(B20)," refer to a collection of examples of hymnal scores
(file A) and hymnal monographs (file B); see also Key to
symbols below. A set of these examples will be found in the print version of the Cataloging
Services Manual of Policies and Procedures, section H.1.b.
