The Center for the Comparative Study of Development currently offers a Master's program and a joint A.B./A.M. program in Development Studies. The program is interdisciplinary in nature, utilizing faculty from various departments such as Sociology, Economics, Political Science, and Anthropology. Supporting this program are the resources, both in print (journals, books, reference sources), and in electronic criptions, machine readable data files), of the University Libraries. This includes all materials held in the Demography Library (affiliated with the Population Studies and Training Center). The University Libraries also have recently acquired the holdings of the World Hunger Library (Alan Shawn Feinstein World Hunger Program).
Because this is a Master's Degree program which overlaps completely with existing programs in the University, the Library does not make a specific allocation for books, nor does it track expenditures in support of the program. Due to its interdisciplinary nature, it is impossible to estimate the number of titles we hold which specifically support the program. One would have to look at reports for these other departments, and assume that, if we are adequately supporting the doctoral programs in Political Science, Economics, and Sociology, and are sensitive to any special needs of this program, we will provide sufficient support.
We have tracked expenditures for serials supporting this program, however. For the past three years, the number of serial titles, and expenditures for them have been:
| Serials Support | 1993/94 | 1994/95 | 1995/96 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Number of Titles | 42 | 41 | 30 |
| Expenditures | $1,529 | $1,175 | $2,348 |
