Booking
the Training Room:
- Reservations
for the Hecker Center Training
room are made using Outlook.
This
can be accomplished either scheduling
Hecker as a "resource".
If you prefer, you can also contact LibTech@brown.edu,
(x 39898) to request the room.
- If there
is a conflicting appointment for
the room, please feel free to negotiate
with the staff member who has the room booked already.
- If
you are unable to keep the
appointment, please remember
to cancel the activity or meeting
with Hecker Center's Outlook
calendar .
- All sessions
held in the Hecker Training Room
are to be library-related, such as
library instruction, staff training,
electronic product demos, reference
meetings, WIG meetings or discipline
group meetings. The room
is not available for classes by non-librarians,
or for use by staff or students
for individual projects.
- There
is no food allowed in the Hecker
Training Room. Beverages in
covered containers are allowed.
You have not used the Hecker
Training Room before, please

for an orientation session.

Equipment
in the Training Room:

One (1) networked
instructor PC with CD-ROM drive,
floppy drive, ZIP drive ·
- Ten (10)
networked user PCs with CD-ROM drive
and floppy drive .
- Seating for
20 · VCR · Document camera for projection
from books, 3-D objects, paper, and overhead
transparencies (use 18 point type or higher for
paper and transparencies) ·

the VCR, and the document camera

- Capability
to connect up Mac or PC laptops for
PowerPoint presentations and/or vendor
demonstrations.

Using
the Training Room:
- Obtain the key to the
room from Reference Desk staff. Sign
it out in the Hecker log binder that
is on the same shelf
under the Reference Desk as the Hecker
appointment book. Unlock the door.
This means that the door will
remain unlocked until you use the
key to lock it again before you leave.

Turn
on lights by pressing "A"
on the light keypad to the left of
the door.

Turn
on instructor podium computer by
pressing the power button on the
CPU under the instructor desk. You
DO NOT need to turn on the
monitor.
-
If you
plan to have users do any hands-on
work, or to display using Netsupport School,
turn on each user workstation
by pressing the power button on the
CPU.
-
Using the touch screen, select the
"PROJECTOR ON/OFF" button
and turn the projector on. This will
bring down
the screen as well.
- If
you plan to display from the podium
computer, press the "COMPUTER
INPUT SELECT" button on the touch screen and choose "PODIUM COMPUTER".

If
you plan to use the VCR, press
the "VIDEO INPUT SELECT" button,
and choose "VCR".
- If you plan to use the document camera,
press the "VIDEO INPUT SELECT"
button on the touch screen and
choose "DOCUMENT CAMERA".
You will also need to turn on the
document camera manually; the switch
is on the top left of the machine.
Then press the lighting button; it
is on the top right of the machine.
Press
the lighting button once for displaying
from paper, books or 3-D objects.
Press twice for using overheads.
- Adjust room
lighting as needed. Press the "LIGHTS"
button on the touch screen. Press
the buttons for the
lighting scene desired. Scene 1 is
good for displaying to the screen
while allowing users to take notes.

If you need to use a laptop and to
display it for the users, the appropriate
cables are kept in the closet behind
the instructor podium. The light
switch is to the left as you enter
the closet. Both PC and Macintosh
laptops
may be used.
- If you need to
use the microphone, it is housed
in the closet behind the instructor
podium. The light switch
is to the left as you enter the closet.
Be sure that the volume is lowered
on the touch screen before you
turn the microphone on. Additional
batteries are in the microphone pouch.
Please lock the closet when you
are finished with the microphone.
- Additional markers for the white
boards are also kept in the closet
behind the instructor podium. The
light switch
is to the left as you enter the closet.
Please lock the closet when you are
finished with the markers.
- If you have used the computer workstations
for hands-on training, manually shutdown
all computer workstations
by using the "SHUTDOWN" command
under the "START" button.
DO NOT manually turn off
the monitors.

Manually
turn off the document camera (if
used).
- Press the "SHUTDOWN" button
on the main page.
-
Be sure to check that BOTH
doors to the Hecker Training Room
are locked.
- Return the key to the Reference Desk
and note its return in the signout
log at the desk

Using
JOSIAH in Staff Mode:
-
To access Josiah in staff mode, click
on the "START" button on the
individual workstations.
-
Click on "PROGRAMS", and then
click on "TCP3270 FOR WINDOWS".
- Select
"TELNET", and then click on
"LIBRARY" from the list of
telnet sessions.
- 4Type
"B" for VT220 terminal emulation.
Type "Y" to confirm it.
-
At
the Josiah menu, type 99 to
switch to staff mode.
