Teaching the Arts of the Book is based on the exhibition of student
work mounted in the John Hay Library, Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island,
April-August 2003. The exhibition coincided with the celebration of Walter Feldman's
fifty years of teaching at Brown University.
The Exhibition Catalog is derived from a locally maintained Filemaker Pro database. The citations are in the format supplied by the student bookmakers; for some works, very little information was supplied and could not be traced through student records.
The images were made with a Nikon Coolpix 800 digital camera, and saved as jpgs. They were transferred to an Apple iMac (OS 9.03) using a SanDisk device. The images were edited and resized using Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and Fireworks 3. Not all the books in the collection were photographed.
The site was designed and produced in Dreamweaver 3.0, and mounted on Brown University's web server using Fetch 3.03 on August 26, 2003.
Rosemary L. Cullen, Head Special Collections Librarian, John Hay Library, designed and produced the site, took the digital photographs and edited them, developed and maintained the Filemaker Pro database, and mounted the original exhibition.
