Émile Jean Horace Vernet Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte. Oil on board.  Circa 1811. This portrait of Napoleon is said to have been made at the suggestion of United States diplomat and poet Joel Barlow.  While exiled at St. Helena, Napoleon gave the painting to his barber, who in turn gave it to the Irish poet, Thomas Moore.   William Henry Hoffman Napoleon Collection.  Gift of Myra Hoffman.
