STAFF APPOINTMENTS:

Barbara Schulz was appointed Head, Business Services, effective December 29, 1994. She is responsible for the operations of the Library Business Office and for coordination of maintenance and repair for all Library buildings, grounds, and equipment. She has a B.A. in Music Education from Boston University and an M.S. in Applied Management from Lesley College. Before coming to Brown, Ms. Schulz served as Director of Business Services and Purchasing for Lesley College.

Robert P. Emlen was appointed University Curator, effective January 1, 1995. [Please see the article on page 6. Ed.] He has a B.A. in English Literature from Lake Forest College and an M.A. in American Cultural History from the University of Vermont. Mr. Emlen served as Executive Director of the John Nicholas Brown Center for the Study of American Civilization from 1985-1994.

Anne K Ilacqua was appointed Head, Demography Library, effective January 9, 1995. She is responsible for the operation and development of the Demography Library and for providing comprehensive, technologically advanced information to its users. Ms. Ilacqua has a B.A. in English from Stonehill College and an M.L.S from the University of Rhode Island. Before coming to Brown, she was Head Librarian, Educational Resources Library, Boston University.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Friends of the Library sold holiday cards last Fall, earning a profit of nearly $10,000. A portion of the money will be used to buy a collection of early Rhode Island manuscripts for the John Hay Library. In 1993, profits were used to help pay for the purchase of da Vinci's Manoscritti dell'Institut de France for the Rockefeller Library, while The Birds of North America was acquired for Sciences in 1992.

Orwig Music Library announces the receipt of the second installment of gifts from the estate of Leonard Bernstein, which include a full score of West Side Story and the revised, vocal score for Candide.
