STAFF APPOINTMENTS: The Library is pleased to announce that effective December 14, 1998, Frederick C. Lynden was appointed Director, Scholarly Communication and Library Research, a position created to meet crucial new needs for the Library. Mr. Lynden will be responsible for providing copyright and licensing expertise both within the Library and to the University community, in consultation with the University Counsel's office; taking responsibility for internal research relating to the Brown University Library, on the model of the University's Office for Institutional Research; and directing and coordinating the Brown University Library's international programs. Mr. Lynden brings substantial expertise to his new duties, including a national reputation as an expert on issues relating to the pricing of library materials. He has been a member of the Library staff since 1977, serving most recently as Associate University Librarian for Technical Services.
