The remodelling of the entrance and lobby area of the John D.
Rockefeller, Jr. Library that will take place during intersession
marks the end of a year of changes. Over that time, the cafe was
installed, the Circulation staff space was renovated, and the
classic Knoll furniture, original to the building in 1964, was
reupholstered. During the break, the existing security station
will be reconfigured, the "pre-computer" Circulation desk will
be replaced with state-of-the-art equipment, Course Reserves and
Interlibrary Loan pickup will be brought to the area, and all
parts of the area will be made ADA compliant.
The redesign of, and centralization of several services on, the
main floor, creating a multifunctional service area with higher
staff visibility, signals a change in attitude and orientation
that is being manifested in all aspects of the Library's operations
and organization. This outgrowth of the Libraryâs strategic planning
process will create a literal gateway to the collections that
will mirror the virtual gateway to our collections and services
available on the Web. No longer a passive repository of books,
the new Library is an active partner in the life of the campus.
We recognize the busy lives of our users and are striving to simplify
and streamline their Library experiences now and in the future.
