BROWN LIBX -- Take the Library Along As You Surf the Web!
Click
here to install LibX Brown Library Edition Version 1.1.2
(Firefox
only!)
LibX Brown Edition is a Firefox
browser extension that provides direct access to the Library's resources.
Toolbar. Search JOSIAH directly from the LibX toolbar from any
page on the web . The toolbar also provides shortcuts to the Library home
page, JOSIAH, InfoGate and our direct borrowing services.

Right-click
context menu: Search JOSIAH, Google Scholar, or find it!@brown using
the right-click context menu.
Support for off-campus access via EZProxy: Using the Library's
EZProxy, you may reload a page through the proxy, or follow a link via
the proxy, making it appear as though you are coming from an on-campus
computer.
Quick full text access to journal articles: LibX uses Google Scholar
to search for articles and directs you to the electronic copy subscribed
to by the Library. Select a citation, then drag-and-drop it onto the Scholar
button on the toolbar. You can use this feature even from inside a PDF file, which makes retrieving papers referenced in a PDF file a snap. (See
SCREENSHOT.)
If you are off campus (and not using the VPN client) or if you are using
the campus wireless service, you will need to set Google
Scholar preferences for "Brown" in the "Library Links"
section in order to see the "find it! @ brown" links that will
direct you to library-subscribed content.
Support for embedded cues: LibX places a small Brown logo as a cue
in web pages you visit if the library has resources related to that page.
Whenever you see the cue, click on the link to look at what the Library
has to offer. For instance, book pages at Amazon or Barnes & Noble
will contain cues that link to the book's entry in Josiah. Cues are displayed
at Google, Yahoo! Search, the NY Times Book Review, Global Books in Print,
and other pages. See SCREENSHOT.
Support for xISBN: A book title can have
different ISBNs for the
paperback, the hardcover, even for different editions. LibX supports OCLC's
xISBN service: you can find a book, given an ISBN, even if the library
holds this book under a different ISBN. Highlight an ISBN on a page to use this functionality.
Support for COinS: LibX supports COinS, which can turn certain
hidden SPAN tags inserted by authors or publishers into actionable OpenURL
(find it! @ brown) links. For example, a search in Current
Law Journal Content will show "find it!@ brown" links in journal tables
of contents. More information on COinS.
