Google ScholarGoogle Scholar indexes the full text of a subset of scholarly literature in a wide range of research areas and includes pointers to books, articles in peer-reviewed journals, preprints, and technical reports. Google Scholar indexes publisher websites, which often offer to sell access to journal articles. Do not pay for articles unnecessarily. Brown subscribes to many thousands of e-journals through various sources. Look for the "find it @ Brown" links within citations to see the fulltext when we have it, check Josiah for print copies, or use Interlibrary Loan to request free copies from other libraries. In your search results you will find two kinds Brown University Library links. A more prominent link, Find It @ Brown Full Text (see an example), on the same line as the article title indicates full text is available and will open a menu with a link to the text. A less prominent link, Find It @ Brown (see an example), below the article citation indicates full text may not be available and opens a menu with options for retrieving a copy of the article. On-campus users will see these "find it @ brown" links automatically. Off campus users may indicate their affiliation with Brown by designating Brown as their institution of choice in Scholar Preferences (see an example). In order to access full text from off campus you must authenticate as a member of the Brown community via the VPN client or EZProxy. Users of the campus wireless service must also authenticate in order to access resources.
