The Wayland Collegium provides
the opportunity to invite a visiting Fellow to campus not
just for a single lecture but to stay long enough to engage
more deeply, especially with those faculty working beyond
the framework of their discipline, in creating new courses
or implementing significant changes in existing courses.
These Fellows may be in residence at Brown for up to four
days.
Some recent Wayland Fellows
have participated in the following courses: AC 161, AF 99,
EAS 146, and SP 170.
Proposals for a Wayland Fellow
grant should include:
- course title and brief
description
- names of faculty participants
- brief biography and CV of Fellow and description of
proposed activities at Brown
- objectives, subject, teaching strategies
- evidence of preliminary contact and of Fellow's willingness
to come if funded
- budget description with major spending categories
- reasons why the Wayland Collegium is an appropriate
funding source.
The Wayland Collegium will
award $3000, including travel and stipend, per Fellow. A
brief report is required at the end of the academic year.
Applications (with 10 copies)
should be submitted to:
James Valles
Office of the Dean of the College, Box 1828
There is no specific deadline. The Collegium will support two Wayland Fellows per year. Please contact the senior fellow well ahead of an anticipated application to discuss eligibility.
Faculty who are interested in discussing
grant proposals are encouraged to get in touch with the
Collegium at any time. Please contact Ken Sacks, Senior Fellow
of the Wayland Collegium and Professor of History.
He may reached at Ken Sacks or at extension 3-2658.
