French archaeologist (1898-1984) of Dutch ancestry, studied and Assyriology at the Institut Catholique de Paris (diplome 1930). Near Eastern art at the Ecole du Louvre (degree in 1933). Worked for the National Museum for 34 years, retiring with the title of ÒConservateur.Ó
