Tania Ghirshman

Wife of Roman Ghirshman, 1900-1984- Russian nationality, educated in Paris in dentistry. After marrying the Near Eastern archaeologist, she joined him in excavations at Luristan, Iran (1932), and continued to work there during WW2, finding her skills as a dentist allowed her to be an expert restorationist dealing with mosaics and sculpture. After a stint in Afghanistan, the Ghirshmans spent the rest of the war in Cairo at the French Institute working on publications, Tania doing the drawings. The Ghirshman's devoted 21 seasons to Susa, with Tania running the domestic side of the expedition. After her husband's death, she prepared his last manuscript for publication.
