I stayed with my family at the Brookside Hotel in Loch Sheldrake one summer in the late 1940's (I was about 3) and for several summers in the late 1950's. I believe the property was taken over by a religious group after it was a hotel. I was hoping to explore the area this summer. Does anyone know where the Brookside was and what is on the property now? Many thanks, Jay Sclar firstname.lastname@example.org
I went to the Klass Hotel and received a certificate for excellence in Arts and Crafts in July 12, 1958. Does anyone remember this hotel? Does anyone remember in the kids day camp having to move rocks from one side of this huge hole to the other? Also, my parents used to go to the Windso Hotel and I have a hanger from there. Does anyone have info on this hotel? Thanks, Beverly Feldman. email@example.com
I'm looking for information on Waldorf House in Fallsburg because I think it was owned by David FINDLING, the brother of my great great grandfather, in the first 3 or 4 decades of the 20th century. Do you know anything about this property? Does it still exist? Who are the current owners? Can I get in contact with them? I would love to get some background information on Waldorf House, especially as there is a FINDLING family reunion in NY in a few weeks and I am going to meet many of cousins for the first time, including some of the grandchildren of David FINDLING. Looking forward to your reply. Toni Platus, Melbourne Australia. firstname.lastname@example.org

Does anyone have information on the Jefferson Hotel, later called the Glen Briar? My uncles Max (Mischy) and Lenny Levine were the owner and head chef, respectively. Max together with his wife, Lillian nee Horowitz, ran the hotel from the 1920s to about the mid-60s. The hotel property abutted Willow Lake, and all that remains is the brick wall: no buildings, not even the handball court. There was a children's camp, Camp Navajo. D. Simonoff email@example.com
My grandparents--Alexander and Hani Meisels owned a hotel and farm in Hunter (Greene County) the Idle Hour Park starting about 1908 up until 1933 when the Depression hit them hard. I went to "The Veg" almost every summer as a kid, and my father, who passed away earlier this year, was a regular there as early as the 1940s. It wasn't a fancy place, but the food was amazingly good and healthy and it drew a diverse, interesting crowd. The last time I was there was as an adult, a few weeks before it closed in 1987. Anybody else remember the lectures under the Tree of Knowledge? The home-made cheese? The mossy lake? The postage stamp-sized pool? Got photos? Thanks, Mason Resnick email@example.com.
I wonder if anyone remembers a place called June Lodge in Tannersville? It was owned and run by my grandmother, Rebecca Hilsenrad. and her 3 sisters in the late 1930's-early 1940's. It would be amazing if anyone has any photos or information about any of these. Thank you. Morton Wright 310-305-9106 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

I'm looking for anyone that can remember the Capitol Inn in Monticello. I used to vacation there as a child in the 1960's and early 1970's. I remember that it was across the street from a small "dime store" shop called Hoffmans but I can't remember the name of any of the streets or the specific location. There was an abandoned old western theme park called Cimmaron City across the main highway that had 3 small lakes and my memory is fading. I'd like to find the address of the old Capitol Inn and any other information about the property or the surrounding properties. Please contact Allan Evenasat email@example.com.

Does anyone remember the Fieldston Hotel in Swan Lake? My grandchildren are interested in their family history and we are looking for more information. Their great grandmother was Helen (Littman) Levine, wife of Max and mother of Jack, Sam, Julius, and Anna Levine. Max and Helen owned a dairy farm in Sullivan County, in Swan Lake in the 1930's, which later became the Fieldston, run by Jack Levine. It burned in the 1960's or 70's, I believe, and the property then became Camp Bnos Yaacov. We would like any information - history, memories or stories of activities there (there were all kinds, we are told), photos, names of descendants or people who worked or lived there at any time. If you know of anybody or how to reach anybody who can help us, we will greatly appreciate an e-mail or a phone call to JoeAnne Biffle in Columbus, Ohio at (614) 237-8917. Thanks ever so much!

I am trying to track down information about the above hotels. My mother was a Wadler (she is now deceased) and she told me about spending many a summer in Fleischmann's, NY. I was on a hike recently with the Catskill Nordic Ski Club and we came upon remains- foundations and a hugh grand outdoor stairway. I thought that I would look into what kind of "hotel" it might have been. My husband researched and said that it may have been Hotel Kennee. Does anyone have any info on an old grand hotel in Bridgeville just off the Quickway? The people we were with said that they had lived in the area since the 60's and no one they knew knew anything about the hotel. I also have a house where the old Avon Lodge complex used to be right by the old O & W bridge over the Neversink. Would appreciate any info that anyone may have on that also. Jeanne Chu firstname.lastname@example.org
My grandparents, Harry & Rose Landberg, owned the Palace Hotel from about 1944 to 1952. It was on the 4 corners of roads leading to Parksville, Liberty, Bradley and Neversink. During the war my mother was the bellhop because we couldn't get young men for the job. My dad was the hotel accountant, my grandfather bought the food, was the head waiter, played the piano & told jokes in the casino. My grandmother did most of the cooking & baking. I was the kids' counselor (10 yrs. old) and sang on the casino stage to the piano accompaniament of my mother, Mollie. My dad, Max, also sang . My sister Jacki, who was a toddler, picked the blueberries for the pies. Who out there remembers our hotel? Who might have pictures? We do, but don't know the names of those in them. Our bands were made up of CCNY boys who went on to bigger & better ! hotels. One example was Marty Werbel. Two families that were returnees were the Tabacks and the Sakowitzes, with kids my age. The Melody Country Club was down the road. I'd love to hear from people with memories of the Palace Hotel. I now sing in the N.Y. and Boca Raton, Fla. areas. P.S. Where is my old friend Rena Regelson(owner of the Harmony Country Club)? Elaine Sternfeld Bernstein EBERNS24@aol.com

I was a member of a "house" band, the Expressions, that played at Youngs Gap during 1965 and 1966. The hotel was a "classic", fun place made for the employees. (The guests had a good time too!) The people were absolutely the best. I'd love to hear from those of you out there who remember the good times and good friends. Robert Saminsky firstname.lastname@example.org
Owned by Abe & Harriet Steinhorn. They had a son, Harvey who sometimes worked as a waiter. Their daughter, Amy was a teenager in the early 70's and sometimes worked in the coffee shop. This hotel was popular because for the Saturday night late show they had strippers. People came from other hotels/bungalow colonies to see the show. Admission was free but you had to buy a drink or two. Abe's father was still around in the early 70's and was taken care of by Spencer, who was mister everything around the hotel. Around 1970, 71 or 72, the MC for the summer was a young man named Alan Paul. When Grease first opened on Broadway, he was in the original cast and on the original cast album. He went on to be part of the famous vocal group 'The Manhattan Transfer'. The main house burned down sometime during the winter (1973?). The dining room and lobby was then rebuilt as part of another building. Abe & Harriet went on to help out at The Aladdin Hotel in Woodbourne sometime in the mid 70's. Mrs. Komito (owner of Aladdin) was still around then and she hoped that Abe & Harriet would bring some of their guests from the Grand Mt. to The Aladdin. For awhile, it worked. Anyone remember Abe & Harriet either at The Grand Mountain. or Aladdin, contact me, Allan email@example.com
I worked at the Irvington the summer of '68! It was the total pits -- but a truly extraordinary experience. Anyone out there that remembers it? I worked at the Youngs Gap hotel as a counselor the summer of 1959 and through the next winter season on school holidays. It was the only Catskills hotel at that time that offered the "modified American" plan --only 2 meals a day. 3 meals a day was one of the biggest attractions at Catskill hotels. It was a wonderful place to be and I would love to hear from any people that might have been there during this time....waiters, busboys...we had so much fun! Ellen Meisner (Copelan) Eameisner@aol.com

I was a guest at Stier's Hotel in Ferndale each summer , for two weeks, with my immediate and extended families ,from the late 30's to the early 50's. In 1952 and 1953 I was in charge of the children during summer vacations from college. As a child from about 8 years of age (1955), my family used to go to the Takanasee Hotel in Fleischmanns annually (until mid 1960s) and I have only fond memories of that era. Does anyone possibly have any archive photos of the village and the hotel??? Weird, but true. I would very much like to hear from anyone who was there at that time. Please contact Rick Schuller at email@example.com Thank you.

I stayed at the Pearl Lake Hotel several times in the late 1940's and early 1950's. It was accessed by means of a road on one side of which was Pearl Lake. On the other side was a waterfall from which water from the lake cascaded into the hotel swimming pool. There were two main buildings with probably 100-200 rooms each. If you know anything about it, I'd appreciate hearing from you at firstname.lastname@example.org

I am looking for anyone who remembers Sackett Lake - home of the Laurels Country Club, owned by the Novak Family. From the time I was about 9 years of age, my family spent our summers at the bungalow colony named "Terrace Gardens" owned by the Cohen family. Mr. and Mrs. Cohen had two sons, Sam and Loen and two daughters, Ethel and Jean. I had some of the best times of my life in Sackett Lake. I danced my way through the hotel "champagne nights" with my partner Marty and fell in love several times (ahh, the Belmore waiters!). Where are they now??? I remember Stan and Bernie Weissman (Warren), whose family owned the Congress Hotel and also a hotel in Miami. Love and knishes to all the Catskill people who read this. I am seeking information on Sunnyland Hotel in Parksville in the 1950s. This hotel, which was owned by Mr. & Mrs. Coccus, might have continued in business for many years or even decades. I am working on a TV special for the A&E Network series "Biography" on BobbyDarin, singer/songwriter/actor/political activist. I am looking for information on the Sunnylands hotel because Bobby Darin worked there during the Summers of 1951 & 1952. It was at the Sunnylands that Darin made his debut at a professional performer. Gertrude Newmark, day-camp director for the Sunnylands, was responsible for getting Darin the job. Darin became quite close with Mr. & Mrs. Newmark and their children, Laurel & Eddie. I give you all this information with the hopes that you can help me track the Sunnylands and or any of the people I¹ve mentioned: the Coccus¹ and the Newmarks.

Looking for former waiters, busboys, and other hotel staff from the Echo Hotel in Ellenville(Greenfield Park). I worked the dining room from 1972 through 1974. Anyone who was there around that time would understand what we all experienced and how those weekends and summers working at the Echo Hotel profoundly shaped our lives. However, I am looking for more people from that era. Anyone with stories to share or who wishes to say hello please contact Mark Cohen at email@example.com. There are many long lost friends that can complete the picture of what took place and help share this history with others.

Hello - I'm writing a novel about my experience in the Aladdin Hotel in the summer of 1958. I'd be interested in speaking with anyone on the subject. I'm also wondering if anyone out there went to the Aladdin that summer as a kid or knows someone named Howie Fine, who was also there. Thanks. Carol Lipton email@example.com

Heidi Urich seeks info on this hotel. Joe Grossman, and his bride Bella Landsman, purchased a farm-hotel called "Clover House" (later Clover Hill Hotel) in the Monticello area in the early 1920's. Joe Grossman was born in 1887 in Klesczow, Poland, and had worked as a Guacho in Argentina before coming to the U.S. Joe and Bella had two children: Barney (b.1918)and Miriam (b.1915, married Albert Abe Leal in 1939). Could you please help me confirm any of this information about the Grossmans' years in the Catskills and advise me if more information is available on the hotel or the family.

If anyone has anything to share with us and the Institute, please contact Alan Schneider at at email@example.com
