Graffiti is a form of vandalism; a territorial marking done without the permission of the building owners. In 1993, Providence intensified enforcement against vandalism with the Mayor’s anti-graffiti hotline and the Anti-Graffiti Patrol program in

conjunction with Providence Community Action. The goals of the patrol were: (1) to remove the graffiti as promptly as possible, (2) to identify the vandals, and (3) hold them accountable and prevent them from further vandalizing the neighborhood. The patrol has removed more than 15,000 graffiti "tags" across the city. Anti-Graffiti Hotline 1-800-TAGGERS.

How Can we Reduce Graffiti?
  • Continued anti-graffiti program encompassing prevention, education, removal and enforcement
  • Maintain a regular and systematic contact with civic associations, community boards and other concerned groups and individuals.
  • Graffiti can never be eliminated completely without increase in funding for removal.
