Are Non-Native Plant Invaders All That Bad?

Curriculum activities based on a research project investigating the comparative effects of native and non-native plant species in ponds of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Pond Sediment: Unlocking Puzzles of the Past

Activities inspired by the identification of historical plant seeds found in tubes of sediment ("sediment cores") collected from ponds. Students use historical plant data to understand the impact of human development and disturbance on pond plant communities in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Ecosystem Diversity from the Great Lakes to the Globe

A variety of field and classroom activities give students familiarity with how researchers collect and analyze plant community data. Data are used to provide concrete examples of how communities and ecosystems vary over scales from the backyard to the globe.
