BOLT needs your help!

Thank you so much for supporting your favorite organization! Alumni donations are as critical as ever to the success of BOLT.

Along with the support from the Endowment Fund yield each year, BOLT depends on a little over $6,000 from donors for "current use" to cover financial assistance for student participation.

Your support during in 2007-2008 provided an amazing $6,404 for our “current use” funds towards financial aid and $19,695 in contributions to our endowment goals! We are incredibly grateful to our alums and parents.  The program could not continue without your support. Thank you!

The BOLT Endowment Fund has a book value of $136,669 which is a gain of $3000 this past year. This provides an annual yield of about 5% to contribute to our operating costs in a permanent way.

Our initial goal for the endowment is $300,000! Until we are able to fully cover our operating costs, the entire program can be disassembled by the University (and they've tried it in the past!).

The program has survived on the strength of its impact on past leaders, BOLTers and parents, and we hope that it will continue to do so for a long time.

To donate a financial gift on-line via Brown's secure site:

•  Go to this link http://www.gifts.brown.edu/ and follow these specific instructions for your gift to reach us.

1. After choosing give on-line, you either log-in or choose "give now."

2. Indentify Brown Outdoor Leadership Training specifically in the on-line form in the section for "other" . THIS PIECE IS IMPORTANT!

3. You can designate your gift to BOLT and choose one of two options:

  • BOLT Endowment Fund - establishs a permanent funding base for BOLT. Please choose the "Add to an Existing Endowment Fund.
  • choose this option - check "Add to an Existing Endowment Fund" and type in Brown Outdoor Leadership Training (BOLT)

  • BOLT Operating Fund (Current Use) - supports our ability to offer financial assistance and to replace/repair our gear.
  • choose this option - check Other Current-Use Priorities" type in Brown Outdoor Leadership Training (BOLT)

*For the current use fund, please know that, as much as possible, we transfer funding into the endowment to support our long-term goals. Each year, we must cover the funding deficit for the program in order to operate and to offer financial assistant to students.

*Be sure to designate your gift to “Brown Outdoor Leadership Training.”  If you don't specify, your pledge will go into the college's general gifts category. (It won't reach us.)

4. You can also choose gift instructions:

  • You can choose a gift "on behalf of", "in honor of", and "in memory of"
  • For example, if you choose a gift “In honor of” Robin Rose, the Office of Development will send a letter to Dean Rose sharing that a gift was given in her name. (You will receive a letter for tax use as well.)

5. The next two pages will be your contact info and credit card info before you are done.
