“Now I see the secret of making the best person: it is to grow in the open air and to eat and sleep with the earth.”

– Walt Whitman

What is BOLT?

BOLT is an outdoor education program for sophomores, transfers, and RUE students that fosters community and leadership. It begins with a 5-day hiking trip in the White Mountains of New Hampshire at the end of the summer, and it continues through the fall semester with community-building events.

Thank you to everyone who supports BOLT! We sincerely appreciate your contribution. Donations are crucial to the financial assistance that we are able to provide to BOLT participants and Leaders. If you are willing and able to donate, please follow the instructions on this page.

Financial Aid and gear program

We are committed to ensuring that all BOLTers and BOLT Leaders are able to participate in our program, regardless of their financial situation. Thanks to generous donors, we are able to rent out gear (such as backpacks, boots, sleeping bags and pads, warm layers, etc.) free of charge. We also offer financial aid to those in need. More information for BOLTers here, and Leaders here.
