bolt home<alumni<newsletter<Big Move BOLT Makes the Big Move by Jesse Cohen Change is in store for the Main Green—and for BOLT. Rhode Island Hall is soon to be the new location of Brown’s Joukowsky Institute for Archeology and the Ancient World and the lovable and sometimes slightly smelly BOLT Gear Room has already moved to a great new home. The BOLT Gear Room can now be found at 80 Brown Street, in the glorious fourth floor attic above Brown Hillel. Last year’s summer managers worked hard to clean the old Gear Room above Psychological Services in Rhode Island Hall to prepare for the Big Move and last year’s managers orchestrated the Big Move—a formidable job—through an exciting series of all-day adventures. And being managers, they were, of course, always cheerful while they did it. Our new Gear Room is an exciting work in progress, but quite a fresh sight to behold. It boasts large shelves for backpacks, a new hanging rack for sleeping bags, and lots more room than we had in Rhode Island Hall. This past summer we installed window fans to control the heat and humidity during the summer months and began the process of replacing some of our old gear with new gear. We recently purchased ten new sleeping bags and honorably retired some of BOLT’s very first sleeping bags from two decades ago (yes, you heard right—we were still using them). We also bought new hip harnesses to rejuvenate and enliven the always interesting BOLT backpacks. In May, BOLT dedicated the new Gear Room in honor of Ryan Heath ’05, who managed BOLT from 2003 through 2005, and who guided BOLT through its most recent accreditation with AEE, the Association for Experiential Education. We are deeply thankful for his tireless work and constant humor.
