About
The Office of Student Life provides programming to support and enhance the experiences for students who identify as being from the African diaspora. Our aim is the promotion and sharing of their unique cultural experience in the university community, and to encourage individual exploration of their cultural heritage. Current programs are designed to assist first-year students with the transition to Brown, provide shared spaces for dialogue and mutual support, assist in identifying useful campus resources, and increase campus awareness about issues that are important to the collective black community.
The Office of Student Life also provides advising and support to Harambee House. Harambee House is a residential program house whose goal is to provide a culturally rich living and learning community for students interested in Africa and black culture. Harambee House offers an opportunity for African diaspora students, as well as non-African diaspora students to plan and participate in programming designed to increase knowledge regarding black culture and to address daily the issues of race, culture, ethnicity, identity and community.
