Opportunity for Seniors!
The Graduate Program in Genome Science and Technology
A Joint Program Of
The University of Tennessee
and
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
The U.S. Human Genome Project is an effort to determine the complete DNA
sequence of the human genome, to identify and characterize the estimated
80,000 human genes, to store this information in databases, and to develop
tools for data analysis. Knowledge of the complete genome will
revolutionize the biological sciences, leading to new discoveries in the
health sciences, comparative genomics, drug design, and environmental
biology.
The Graduate Program in Genome Science and Technology is new! It is
designed to focus on new developments in the biological and computational
sciences that stem from the genome sequencing efforts. Students will be
trained in emerging areas of:
genome science
structural biology
proteomics
computational biology and bioinformatics
bioanalytical technologies
The program takes advantage of the opportunity that the University of
Tennessee, Knoxville, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory have for
interaction and collaboration. It combines an academic environment with
the team-oriented approach to large research initiatives at the national
laboratory. Researchers at the two campuses have expertise in cutting-edge
research tools:
Spectroscopy
High Field NMR
X-ray Crystallography
Mammalian Genetics
Computational Modeling
Mass Spectrometry
Neutron Scattering
Microarray Technology
Is this the program for you?
We seek outstanding students with a broad background in Biological,
Physical or Computational Sciences. Our students will be highly trained,
multidisciplinary, motivated, independent, and diverse. GST graduates will
also be very marketable in the new millennium!!
