We at Brown Dining Services are very proud of the products we provide to our customers. Our program is built on a “home-cooking” philosophy, with its foundation in well-crafted recipes and quality ingredients. We are currently developing a Community Harvest Program. The goal of this program is to form a partnership with our local growers and farming cooperatives to provide the highest quality, freshest and most environmentally friendly products available.

Brown Dining Services has consistently worked to support our local community, working with established local food providers and distributors.  The Community Harvest Program however marks the first attempt to form a solid foundation of farmers and cooperatives in an effort to create a mutually beneficial and environmentally conscious program between the local farming community and the University.  In furthering our commitment to develop this program, we have formed a team of students who recognize the benefits of eating locally grown foods. This team in conjunction with Brown Dining Services professionals will create, develop and implement this Community Harvest Program.

Currently locally grown items are identified with cards featuring the program name and carrot symbol. Our goal is to have all dining units bring locally grown product to their menu offerings.

We will be sponsoring various events in conjunction with this program: farmer’s markets, a Sustainable Dining Forum, and a Recipe contest.

This Community Harvest Program promises to be a vibrant program with mutual benefits for local farmers, Brown Dining Services and students alike! We look forward to and appreciate any feedback you can provide. Comments may be sent to LocalBeets@brown.edu.  Farmer's Market on Wriston, Fall Farm Tours, Harvest Crew
