A force in the world of college fraternities for over 150 years, Sigma Chi has been a prominent organization on Brown campus since 1914. Whether at our annual Black & White, Christmas and Disco Inferno parties or during our legendary Spring Week festivities, like Steak & Lobsters and our formal at the Belcourt Mansion in Newport, you can't go far without running into a Sig. Over 70 Brown undergraduates from all across the United States and a dozen foreign countries – athletes and actors, writers and musicians, leaders, and above all, gentlemen and friends all call Sigma Chi their home. Since its creation in 1855, Sigma Chi has striven to instill in its members a deep regard for the ideals of Friendship, Justice, and Learning. Based on the theory that "friendship among members, sharing a common belief in an ideal, and possessing different temperaments, talents, and convictions…is superior to friendship among members having the same temperaments, talents, and convictions," Brotherhood in Sigma Chi is a lifelong bond shared among men of all walks of life.
