Care |
Emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. Call 863-4111 for emergency medical care in case of sudden
illness or injury. Reasons to call EMS include but are not limited
to:
- Difficulty breathing
- Major bleeding
- Obvious major injury
- Injury that impairs mobility
- Loss of consciousness or unresponsiveness
- Diminished consciousness or mental confusion
- Severe pain - of sudden onset, of unknown
cause, or of long duration
- Severe alcohol/other drug intoxication

Brown University Emergency Medical Services
(EMS), an advanced life support system, will respond and provide
pre-hospital care, and transportation to the hospital or Health
Services as necessary. In the event that Brown EMS is already
engaged, back-up response is available from Providence Fire
Department EMS.
Brown University EMS is staffed by paid
supervisors (Paramedics or EMT-Cardiacs) and student volunteer-EMTs.
The EMS administrative office number is 863-3671. Do not call
this number for medical services.

Call 863-3953 for an appointment
for acute problems which include:
- rashes
- chest congestion
- eye infection
- urinary infection
- pregnancy testing
- muscle strains
- injuries
- cuts or lacerations
- vomiting, diarrhea
- prescription refills
- referrals

Anytime during your visit, if you feel too sick
while waiting because you might faint or otherwise lose control,
tell the receptionist; they will see you get immediate attention.
Health Services is available after hours and weekends
for your urgent health care needs. Our nursing staff is available
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, when classes are in session with
a physician on call. It is recommended that you call first for advice
on what to do.
