Program Overview

The NSP (New Scientist Program) is a student organized program at Brown, sponsored by the Office of the Dean of the College, which offers to support students of color in math, engineering, and physical, life, and computer sciences. NSP is made up of undergraduate students that aim to increase diversity in these disciplines as well as provide networking opportunities with faculty and other students of color through academic and social interaction.

Brown’s New Scientist Program supports students of color who are pursuing math, science, engineering and technology concentrations. NSP hosts events that enrich the undergraduate experience through the sharing of resources and the development of a learning community. These events range in forum (workshops, study halls, faculty luncheon discussions, conferences, etc.) and include various topics such as mentoring, networking, science communication, finding research at Brown, getting published, participating in science outreach, applying to graduate school, and more.

Activities provide a network of individuals to the NSPer and a means to discuss important issues for scientists of color, within a community that is all inclusive. The Pal Program provides incoming students with access to an experienced Brown students, providing an invaluable resource to any student interested in succeeding in the sciences at Brown.
