Back at Brown
Back at Brown is a support group for students returning from medical leave or a personal leave that was the result of a medical or psychological challenge. The group is designed to provide support for individuals in their first two semesters post-leave. Group members discuss the challenges and triumphs they face as they adjust to being “back at Brown.” The group is structured to provide peer to peer support and is facilitated by Dr. Linda Welsh.
The group meets on Thursdays from 12 noon to 12:55 in the conference room at Psychological Services on the 5th floor of J. Walter Wilson. Pizza, drinks and cookies are provided. Students can also bring their own lunch. Contact Dr. Welsh (Linda_Welsh@brown.edu) if you are interested in attending or if you have any questions about the group.
Students with Chronic Medical Conditions
This fall we are again running a support group for students with chronic medical conditions, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, MS, GI diseases, diabetes, and other illnesses. The group meets weekly and gives students an opportunity to discuss issues that they may not be able to share elsewhere: feelings of isolation and stigmatization, how and when to share information about their illness with friends and professors, and coping with pain and fatigue while being a full time student.
The group meets on Fridays at 2:00-3:00 PM in the conference room at Psychological Services on the 5th floor of J. Walter Wilson. Email Mark Rubinstein (Mark_Rubinstein@brown.edu) if you are interested in attending or have questions about the group.
ADHD/ADD Support Group
This group is cosponsored by Student and Employee Accessibility Services (SEAS) and Psychological Services. Group sessions will start with information designed to connect you with resources and provide ways to make learning easier. The group will finish off with an open discussion addressing group members’ personal challenges coping with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Attention Deficit Disorder. No diagnostic paperwork is required for attendance.
The group meets on Tuesdays 12:00-1:00 PM in the SEAS conference room located at 20 Benevolent Street. Please contact Dr. Jackie Twitchell (Jackie_Twitchell@brown.edu) or Stephanie Davies (Stephanie_Davies@brown.edu) if you are interested in attending the group.
