Residential Council Minutes :: November 1, 2005

    1. Did not meet, will be meeting this week
    2. Report on meeting with Rosario in emails, submit comments to Justin

    1. Met yesterday
    2. Put together good questions for special-interest housing surveys (for freshmen and upperclassmen in quiet and substance-free dorm
    3. Katie handed out survey to us for review
    4. Council offered suggestions on survey structure and question wording
  5. Questions for Rich Bova - he is coming next week
    1. How are they willing to listen to our CA input?
      1. Dean Forsberg: criticism is welcome, but criticism of individual CA's is different from discussion about value of the program
      2. We are obligated to advise them if they are willing to listen
      3. remember that CA program is in its first year
      4. Why was gender-neutral language we discussed not on housing form?
    2. Questions about funding for CA's, and funding for RPL's
      1. how money for retreats, etc. can better go towards the students
    3. Follow up on things from last year
      1. Committed to expand coed housing to all appropriate areas
      2. Housing all freshmen by gender they express
    4. Card access meeting, his point of view on it
    5. Discuss UCS and how we are working together
    6. Explain how they are working together to get back communal spaces
      1. Will they bring them back or is loss we will have to deal with
    7. What kind of money situation is ResLife in?
    8. Will you consider new lotteries?
    9. What are priorities about housing lottery systems
    10. Will ResLife entertain UCS proposals about enhancing freshman questionnaire about personality matching
  6. Card access prioritization - which proposal are we advocating?
    1. Options - universal, regional, freshman access, friend to friend, buzz-in system, buzz-in with freshman
    2. regional card access will be pursued regardless
    3. Justin: dont think about costs and implementation problems!!!! We are thinking in the abstract
    4. Buzz-in
      1. Jimmy: buzz-in system should be implemented regardless
      2. Adam: would take a lot of implementation and a huge behavioral change
      3. Ben: against buzz-in system, behavioral change would be huge
      4. Buzzin will change behavior quickly because of fast turnover
      5. Dave: it is such a simple system
      6. Kyle: will be long-term solution
    5. Universal freshman
      1. Adam: very good, creates community, especially without lounges
      2. A kind of pilot program for universal access
      3. Ben: limit to time hours
    6. Regional
      1. We dont want to just think in the short-term
    7. Buzz-in and Freshman access

    1. UCS article that refers to ResCouncil had an inaccurate fac

    1. Is on a task force looking at energy
    2. looking at short-, medium-, and long-term reactions
    3. would value our input about it, will discuss it with us
    4. idea about giving RPL's really good thermometers to ensure accuracy of temperature
    5. discussion will be very location-specific
