Residential Council Minutes :: October 10, 2006

  1. i. BIKE POLICY
    1. a. Plan to remove all old bikes
      1. i. When specifically in Fall and Spring?
      2. ii. Don’t want to limit it to fall
      3. iii. Email should be sent immediately to whole campus
      4. iv. Mandatorily register all bikes by spring?
      5. v. Action required as soon as possible
      6. vi. Amendment to inform alumni – ResLife will consider sending ad through BAM (Brown Alumni Magazine)
    2. b. Use of money from selling abandoned bikes
      1. i. Taking portion of sales and using it to refund people for stolen bikes
    3. c. Implementation of Policy
      1. i. Put pink tags on all bikes that are registered
      2. ii. Does bike storage have to be restricted to dorm in which you live?
      3. iii. Tagging for 3 weeks --> then have tangible consequences
      4. iv. What if we just tag all those that look abandoned
      5. v. POSITIVE TAGGING (identifying those that are registered) vs. NEGATIVE TAGGING (identifying all those that are not registered) –– which is easier?
      6. vi. What if they take off their tag but don’t get bike registered?
      7. vii. Get cable ties and get it and put it on – different colour for each year
      8. viii. Use CAs as a resource to distribute bike tags, will get residents acquainted with CAs
      9. ix. There are too many bikes in these rooms; --> path of least resistance will work best and will also help get guidelines approved
      10. x. Registration should not be mandatory --> goes against Brown’s philosophy of choice??
      11. xi. What can be most easily implemented?
