Brown University DUGs

(Departmental Undergraduate Groups)

A DUG is a group of concentrators in a given department who meet regularly to provide a setting in which students can explore potential careers in a given department, create a sense of community with a discipline, and make and strengthen connections between concentrators, professors and concentrators, as well as concentrators and alumni. Such groups are unique to all other students groups in that they are academically based, even while providing an opportunity for students not involved in other types of groups to find an activity for themselves. DUGs also provide a means for underclassmen to explore various concentrations.

The Office of the Dean of the College is willing to provide $500 in matching funds if your department is willing to financially and materialistically support a DUG. Meanwhile, the AAA Committee will work to make sure that the money used for these DUGs is being put to good use, help DUGs organize events and help students form a functional DUG.
